1. Who We Are
I Wrote This (“IWT,” “we,” “us”) is an educational learning and assessment platform. We provide AI-skills learning experiences, student project tools, teacher-created assessments, and interviews that help educators understand how students reason about their work.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly:
- Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Organization information: School or institution name, department, and role when joining an organization.
- Submissions and learning projects: Documents uploaded for assignments and content entered into learning activities, including project source cards and learner decisions.
- Interview responses: Text and audio responses during AI interviews, including audio recordings if voice mode is used.
- Video snapshots: If camera access is granted during interviews, we capture periodic identity verification snapshots.
We automatically collect:
- Browser type, device information, and IP address for security and debugging.
- Usage patterns such as login times and feature interactions.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide learning and assessment features, including AI-skills activities, teacher-created assignments, interview questions, and assessments.
- To authenticate users and enforce role-based access controls.
- To send transactional emails (assignment reminders, interview completion notifications).
- To generate aggregate analytics for teachers and administrators (no individual student data is shared across organizations).
- To operate, test, and improve IWT’s learning and assessment features.
4. AI Processing
IWT uses different outside AI services for different features rather than one model for the whole product. The current product is configured to use Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, and Moonshot/Kimi for feature-specific text processing; Groq and OpenAI for speech-to-text; and ElevenLabs for text-to-speech. The provider and information sent depend on the feature and its configuration.
IWT itself does not train AI models on learner content. Outside providers handle information under their own service terms and practices, which are not identical across providers or features.
In the first authentic AI Powers Build, Turn a Pile into a Case, IWT keeps authentic source cards, learner decisions, and the learner’s focus note inside IWT. Its authentic mode uses local, rule-based scaffolding and does not send those materials to DeepSeek or another outside AI model. Other features may send content to an outside provider to perform the AI, transcription, or speech function the learner or educator is using.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share data only:
- Within your organization — teachers see their students’ submissions and interview results.
- With service providers — Supabase (database hosting), Vercel (application hosting), Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, and Moonshot/Kimi (feature-specific AI processing), Resend (email delivery), Groq and OpenAI (speech-to-text, depending on configuration), and ElevenLabs (text-to-speech). Not every provider is used by every feature.
- When required by law or to protect safety.
6. Data Security
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth with row-level security policies that isolate data between organizations. We use service role keys only for administrative operations that cannot run under user credentials.
7. Student Data & FERPA
When a school uses IWT, the school determines whether learner information is an education record and the authority under which it is provided. IWT uses school-provided learner information to deliver the requested educational service and does not use it for advertising. Institutional administrators can request data export or deletion, subject to applicable requirements and operational limits.
8. Data Retention
Data stored by IWT, including submission files, interview recordings, learning projects, and assessment results, is generally retained for the duration of the institutional relationship. Institutions can request deletion of organizational data. Individual users can request deletion of their personal account and associated data by contacting us. Outside providers may follow separate retention practices for information sent to them as described in Section 4.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information. You can update your profile information at any time through your dashboard. For data export or deletion requests, contact us at the address below.
